I’m excited to meet all of you and wish each player the best of luck throughout the tryout process.
After the 1st and 2nd tryouts, a list of ID numbers will be posted as an invitation back to the following tryout. After the final tryout on May 1st the ID numbers will be posted as the team selection.
Commitment to the team is to be complete by Friday May 2nd via email. A Team Practice will take place on Saturday May 3rd where commitment letters will be collected. A Scrimmage has been booked on Tuesday May 6th at 7:00PM in Barrie.
When registering your player, please be sure to clearly indicate the position they will be trying out for. Evaluations and team selection will be based on the position chosen.
Over the course of the three (3) tryout sessions, I, along with the evaluators, will be focusing on assessing the player’s competitive drive, effort level, and overall attitude. We will also be evaluating core hockey skills, including but not limited to skating, passing, shooting, and hockey IQ.
I have also been fortunate enough to watch a lot of U11 and U13 hockey over the past few months leading into tryouts, and have likely watched your athlete compete a few times already.
My goal is to build a fast, hard-working team that is tough to play against every game.
Looking ahead to the season, we plan to begin training in August, which will include dryland training, classroom sessions, and possibly some team skates.
In September, our practices will emphasize a high-tempo style as we prepare for the regular season with exhibition games.
Throughout the season, the team will participate in 3-4 tournaments, along with several team activities both on and off the ice.
In total, you should expect 3-5 team events per week.
A little bit about myself, I am entering my 4th year as a Coach with the Panthers. I’m a lifelong hockey player and fan that truly enjoys being a part of the athlete’s development. I believe my strengths are communications and motivation, along with game understanding and execution.
If you have any questions about the tryout process, the team, or anything else, please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]
Thank You, and best of luck at tryouts!
Coach Mike
