The U15 DS Panthers wrapped up their
phenomenal season this weekend by participating in the 56th Annual
Brampton Canadettes Tournament - the largest female hockey tournament in
the world!
The team, who finished the regular season as the top team in province, fought valiantly all weekend, finishing first in their division after pool play. The momentum continued into the quarter finals with the Panthers playing to a resounding 3-0 shutout of the Kingston Ice Wolves. The win sent the Panthers to the semi-finals where they'd face their season-long rival Whitby Wildcats. The Panthers were again victorious in a thrilling 2-1 overtime win, earning the team a trip to the tournament final where they'd face the Sudbury Wolves. The final was a tense battle from start to finish, with both teams playing strong defense and showcasing impressive goaltending. The Panthers struck first with an impressive breakaway goal, but their opponents equalized in the third period, pushing the game into overtime. Despite several close calls and a determined effort, the Panthers couldn't find the back of the net in the extra period. With just a minute left in the overtime period, Sudbury avoided a shootout by scoring the tournament clinching goal. The loss was heartbreaking, but the team's grit and determination throughout the tournament were undeniable. The entire team should be proud of their accomplishments this season - First place in OWHA standings, and 2 tournament finals!
