During the 2019-20 season, Raychel Gillies, a Central York Panther, was timekeeping her fathers weekly hockey game when the goalie went into cardiac arrest.  Raychel immediately performed CPR, used an AED, and saved his life.  Our Orange Crush Peewee team, was inspired by Raychel's heroism and created their own fundraising campaign that not only raised enough money to place two life saving AED SaveStations at local Community outdoor rinks in Newmarket and Aurora, but also increased cardiac safety awareness.

This season, the entire Central York Girls Hockey Association  is being called upon to continue this amazing initiative.  From March 13 - 27th the CYGHA SHE SHOOTS, SHE SAVES campaign will be launched.  The goal of the campaign is, to bring our Association together, to raise money for more SaveStations for our community, and to shoot as many pucks as possible.  Who knew shooting a puck could save a life!

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Each CYGHA player will register themselves under their age group (U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 U18, U22, Senior) through HockeyShare, an app that will allow the players to track their hockey shots. See link below:

    https://www.hockeyshare.com/cygha/
  • Players will work independently to take as many hockey shots as they can in the two week period. Shots can be practiced in your driveway, basement, outdoor rink, living room or on the street in front of your home!
  • Each girl will gather pledges from friends and family. These pledges will be collected through a Crowdfunding platform donated and tailored for CYGHA by SaveStation.  Click on the document link below to find your Crowdfunding page.
