Team Ontario Media Release
The Central York Panthers would like to congratulate our 2023-24 Jr Panthers Hailey Maguire and Cheyenne Degeer on being selected to represent Team Ontario at the National Women’s U18 Championship being held in Dawson Creek, British Columbia from Nov 5-11.

They were both selected to be on Team Ontario Blue (Ontario sends two teams, one is Team Blue and other is Team Red). Eight provincial and regional teams - Alberta, Atlantic, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario Red, Ontario Blue, Quebec, and Saskatchewan - compete for gold and national bragging rights. These players went through a prolonged process that involved them being monitored throughout the past two years at various events, as well as an intensive 4-day selection camp back in the summer. They both ultimately passed all of these challenges with flying colours and showed Team Ontario that they are both worthy of representing the OWHA at the upcoming U18 Nationals.

In addition to these players, we are also very excited to announce that Avery Johnston, Ella Newman-Mixon, Kenzie Lehman, and Izzy Whynot were also selected to attend the Team Ontario camp this upcoming weekend, Oct 6-9. These four players will all be on an additional team of 2007 born players that will compete against Team Red and Team Blue over the course of this upcoming weekend to get Team Red and Blue ready for the U18 Nationals. Being named to this 2007 team means a great deal to our Panthers as they are being watched for future Team Ontario opportunities.

All of these players are very excited to represent the Panther organization at such a prestigious event. Something like this does not happen overnight. It takes years of work and these players are great examples to our Panthers that anything is possible. To add to this impressive announcement is the fact that the Panthers have never sent more than 2 players to this High Performance final camp. The fact that the Panthers have 6 players going to such an elite camp is an amazing accomplishment for these players and shows everyone that there is great work being done here in Central York by the players, coaches, and support staff. We are thrilled to be able to make this announcement for Hailey, Cheyenne, Avery, Ella, Kenzie, and Izzy! Good luck Panthers and enjoy this amazing experience!
