Submitted By Stephen Dempsey on Tue 04 20, 21
(April 17, 2021 Aurora, Ontario) – The Central York Girls Hockey Association is pleased to announce that their 2020-21 Jr Panther, Ahalya Julien-Medeiros, has committed to play USports OUA Women’s Hockey for the Ryerson University Rams in Toronto, Ontario for the 2022-23 season.

Ahalya has been an integral part of the Central York Panthers Junior program this past year and has immersed herself into the Panther culture. Ahalya headlines a strong defensive unit that boasts several Ontario High Performance players and is geared to play a fast, upbeat style of hockey that prepares these players for elite hockey opportunities. Ahalya has been so laser focused this year with her development in both skills and on the mental side of the game. Ahalya has used every development aspect available to her to create a competitive edge and is ready to take her game to a National level.

“My Jr Panthers coaching staff and teammates challenge me to be the best I can be on and off the ice and I can’t thank them enough. In particular Coach Steve went above and beyond in supporting me in achieving my goal of playing hockey while pursuing post secondary education. I’m thrilled to be joining the hockey program at Ryerson University in 2022”, announced Ahalya Julien-Medeiros.

Known as a highly skilled, passionate player who plays with a competitive edge that helps to separate her from her peers. Ahalya is counted on to play against the top units from the other teams in the PWHL night in and night out. She anchors a strong defensive unit and adds to the team offense with her shot and decisions along the offensive blueline. Her leadership traits have helped to create a very inclusive and supportive team culture in the Panther dressing room.

Lisa Haley, Head Coach of the Ryerson University Rams has been watching Ahalya’s progress as a Panther over the past year and is thrilled that she is joining her program.

Central York’s  Junior Head Coach Steve Dempsey is ecstatic about this signing. “Ahalya was one of my biggest signings for the Central York program. I knew that our program would be a great fit for Ahalya and she has more than exceeded our expectations. Ahalya is an elite player but more importantly she has been a huge part of our team culture and we are so lucky to have her with us. For me personally I couldn’t ask for a better person to be a part of our team. Ahalya makes it so much fun to be her coach and she has really helped our team get through a challenging season. Focusing on her skills and celebrating her daily commitment to being a better person each day has led Ahalya to this point and I couldn’t be happier for her. The Ryerson Rams are very lucky to have Ahalya and we are looking forward to seeing her excel in the OUA”.

Ahalya is scheduled to start the 2022-23 season at Ryerson University in September 2022.
