(April 11, 2023 Aurora, Ontario) – The Central York Girls Hockey Association are thrilled to announce that their 2022-23 Jr Panther Jersie Lindley has committed to play USports Women’s Hockey for Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo for the 2023-24 season.

Jersie has excelled in her time as a Central York Panther. She has really developed her game at both ends of the rink and is now a top tier player in the highly competitive OWHL U22 Elite League. Jersie has become known for her ability to play a fast paced, gritty, hard working, highly offensive game that has helped the Jr Panthers have another successful season. Jersie has combined her highly competitive nature with her enhanced offensive abilities to create scoring chances for her team on every shift. Jersie looks to push the pace and play the game faster every time she steps on the ice.

Jersie was an important addition to the Central York Panthers family at a time when the program needed to further develop the “Panther” culture.  It is obvious to anyone that knows Jersie that she loves hockey and wants to be the best she can be. But it was and is Jersie’s commitment to the team and developing a family atmosphere that really demonstrated to everyone how much being a Panther has meant to Jersie. Her positive energy and infectious attitude have made a real difference with the Panther teams that she has been a part of over the years.

Jersie emotionally stated, “the Central York Panthers will always hold a very special place in my heart as they are my second family and home. The culture that is created in this organization is amazing and I have enough memories to last a lifetime. I will forever be grateful for the teammates  who have pushed me and supported me so that I was able to get to where I am today. Thank you to Coach Steve, and to all the other coaches for believing in me and putting in countless hours to help me grow as a player, and as a person. It has been a dream of mine to play hockey at the next level and I am beyond excited to continue my journey with the Golden Hawks women’s hockey team at Wilfrid Laurier University. I cannot thank the Panthers organization enough for making me always feel welcomed and for leaving such a lasting impact on my life”.

Kelly Paton, the Head Coach at Laurier, is extremely excited to have Jersie joining her program. Kelly has been watching Jersie’s progress as a Panther over the past year and is thrilled to see how much Jersie has developed recently.

Central York’s  Junior Head Coach Steve Dempsey is very excited about this signing. “Jersie came to Central York with a lot of potential but her Panther coaches kept building her up and now we see a complete player. She has developed herself into an exceptional two way player that is an impact every time she steps on the ice. I love watching the speed and compete level that Jersie brings. She plays the game fast and we love that here. Laurier has added a key piece to their future. Jersie has shown all of us what true dedication to a program looks like. I am so lucky to have coached Jersie. She has helped me become a better coach and a better person. I am cherishing every moment that I get to coach her and I can’t wait to see all of her accomplishments as she continues on this amazing journey”.

Jersie is scheduled to start the 2023-24 season at Wilfrid Laurier University in September 2023.
