(Nov 10, 2021 Aurora, Ontario) – The Central York Girls Hockey Association are pleased to announce that their 2022-23 Jr Panther Hannah Clarke has committed to play NCAA Division 1 Women’s Hockey for the Providence College Friars in Providence, Rhode Island for the 2024-25 season.

Hannah has been an integral part of the Central York Panthers Junior program for the past 2 seasons and will be looked upon to help lead the Jr Panthers next year as well. Hannah headlines a strong defensive unit that boasts several Team Ontario High Performance players and is geared to play a fast, upbeat style of hockey that prepares these players for elite hockey opportunities. Hannah is a natural athlete who has always excelled in any sport that she dedicates herself to. Known for her athleticism and being a multi-sport athlete, Hannah has shown that she can balance her demanding athletic workload and still excel in the classroom. Always looking to get better Hannah is an outstanding example to the younger Panthers of someone who never looks for a shortcut. Hannah has used every development aspect available to her to create a competitive edge and is ready to take her game to a National level.

Hannah was selected this past summer to participate in the highly competitive OWHA U18 High Performance selection camp. She had a great showing and was then selected into the Top 40 OWHA U18 Selection Camp held in October. From this pool of players will come the Team Ontario team that will compete in the Canada Winter Games in February.

“Playing for the Central York Panthers has been amazing. It has brought me so much joy being a part of this organization, through the relationships with my teammates and coaches. My teammates and coaches are always by my side, supporting and challenging me to be a better player and an even better person. It may not sound real but the whole organization feels like a second family to me. I really enjoy coming to the rink everyday and sharing my passion with my team and going through all of our experiences together. Mentoring the younger Panthers is one of my favourite things about being on the Jr Panthers. We all strive to grow the game and leave a legacy that will last after we are gone. My time at Central York has taught me what it means to be a part of a strong team culture, and the importance of leaving the jersey in a better place”, declares Hannah Clarke.

Known as a highly skilled, passionate player who plays with a competitive edge that helps to separate her from her peers. Hannah is counted on to play against the top units from the other teams in the OWHL U22 Elite League night in and night out. She anchors a strong defensive unit and adds to the team offense with her shot and decisions along the offensive blueline. Her leadership traits have helped to create a very inclusive and supportive team culture in the Panther dressing room.

Matt Kelly, Head Coach of the Providence College Friars has been watching Hannah’s progress as a Panther over the past 2 years and is thrilled that she is joining their program.

Central York’s  Junior Head Coach Steve Dempsey is ecstatic about this signing. “Hannah is an amazing person. Most people only see the player on the ice that works as hard as anyone and is a dynamic 200 foot player. But it is the behind the scenes stuff that really shows you the tremendous heart that she has. Hannah spearheads several community events for our team throughout the year. Hannah is always looking for ways to have a positive impact on the surrounding community. Her actions have helped to enforce the Panther first culture that we want here at Central York. We want good people that happen to play hockey and Hannah fits that criteria perfectly. Hannah is an elite high performance player but more importantly she has been a huge part of building our team culture and we are so lucky to have her with us. For me personally I couldn’t ask for a better person to be a part of our team. Some players are looking for their work to be rewarded but Hannah is always looking to see where she can give more. You can’t help but cheer for Hannah because she epitomizes all that is good in sport. The Providence Friars are very lucky to have Hannah and we are looking forward to seeing her excel in the NCAA”.

Hannah is scheduled to start the 2024-25 season at Providence College in September 2024.
